Wow! It's so hard to believe that the end of the grading period is fast approaching. I have been completing assessments for the report card the last 2 weeks. I am pleased with what I am seeing. When you receive the report card there will be a few resources accompanying it. These will be strategies to use with your child for reading, as well as some individualized things your child needs to work on that are not mastered. Report cards will come home Friday, October 19. Please be looking for the envelope containing the report card. The report card is yours to keep, but you will sign and return the envelope it comes in.
Second Grading Period
I wanted to inform you of the Big Ideas of what we are going to be covering in the second nine weeks.
Language Arts Big Ideas
- Students know how books work.
- Students know sounds can be blended to make words and that words can be segmented into sounds.
- Students know how to use oral language to express their own or respond to other's ideas.
- Students know ideas expressed orally can be recorded as written text which can be read.
Math Big Ideas
- Students will understand that we use numbers in a variety of ways to make sense of our world.
- Students will understand that we use tens to organize and represent bigger numbers.
- Students will understand that we can describe some attributes of objects using numbers.
- Students will understand that we can describe objects in our world using pictures and words.
- Students will understand that we can model real-world problems involving putting together and taking apart by using objects and symbols.
We will really start working on putting words into our writing starting second nine weeks. Right now the children are working hard on their illustrations and telling stories through pictures. This is developmentally appropriate right now, but I feel that they are ready to start using words.
Field Trip! Our first field trip will be to the Country Market on Monday, October 15. We are going to learn so many great things while we are there. Please be sure to send your child's $5 by Wednesday, October 10. If you would like to join us on this field trip it is $5 for you as well. Please be sure you have a criminal history check on file in the office.
Picture Day. Our picture day is Friday, October 12. Please be sure to send the picture order form with your child on that day.
FALL BREAK. Our school's Fall Break is Monday, October 22-Friday, October 26. I'm sure all the students are ready for a break!
Our class will be having a Fall Party on Wednesday, October 31. We have a couple of wonderful parents who are taking on the party planning. I want to say I really appreciate this because it takes a load off of my plate.
